Meet Sergio Baars

General Manager Europe
Key Plant Welderentals Division

Each month, we highlight one of the people driving Key Plant Automation forward — and for September, we’re proud to feature Sergio Baars, our General Manager Europe, based at the Key Plant Welderentals facility in Stellendam, Netherlands.

“Being able to access places that most people never get to see. Whether it’s a massive factory floor or an exclusive engineering site, I’m constantly inspired by the scale and complexity of the work.”

Sergio officially became part of the Key Plant family in 2024, following our acquisition of Red-D-Arc’s European operations. However, his relationship with Key Plant goes back much further. For years, Key Plant has been a trusted manufacturing partner to Red-D-Arc, supplying welding automation, handling and positioning equipment, and delivering custom-engineered solutions for high-impact projects across the World.

This long-standing collaboration made Sergio’s transition into the role of General Manager Europe a seamless one. With deep-rooted experience in the rental industry and an insider’s understanding of our equipment portfolio, Sergio now leads our European operations with precision, passion, and purpose.

A Wealth of Experience — and a Passion for Progress

Sergio brings nearly 20 years of experience in the industrial rental sector. His career began at Atlas Copco, later transitioning into the world of welding equipment through Abrid and Red-D-Arc.

As General Manager Europe, Sergio is responsible for the day-to-day operations at our Stellendam facility and holds commercial responsibility for all dealer, partner, and customer relationships across Europe. His deep technical insight, strategic mindset, and commitment to customer success make him a cornerstone of Key Plant’s European presence.

Life Beyond the Workshop

Outside of work, Sergio is committed to maintaining a balanced lifestyle. He exercises regularly and values spending quality time with his wife and three children — two of whom are already adults. In a particularly exciting new chapter, his eldest child is expecting a baby in March 2026, marking Sergio’s upcoming debut as a proud grandfather. 👶🎉

5 Questions
with Sergio

1. Favourite product or equipment to work on? (And why?)

“I enjoy helping out in the workshop whenever I can, especially assembling new machines. My favorites? Induction heating systems from Miller and the Kemppi X5. I love the hands-on aspect and seeing machines come together.”

2. One tool or machine you couldn’t live without?

“My company car — it gets me everywhere I need to be. Whether I’m visiting customers, partners, or spending time with my family on the weekends, it’s absolutely essential.”

3. What do you enjoy most about working in the industry?

“Being able to access places that most people never get to see. Whether it’s a massive factory floor or an exclusive engineering site, I’m constantly inspired by the scale and complexity of the work.”

4. A project you’re most proud of?

“Seven years ago, I was involved in a major infrastructure project in Biesbosch, Dordrecht (NL). We used three GL-100s to weld a three-kilometre-long, 2000mm-diameter water pipe. The scale, coordination, and impact of that project made it one of the highlights of my career.”

5. Go-to song in the workshop, office, or car?

“Kylie by Akcent — always a great tune to boost your mood on the road.”

6. Bonus question: Tea or coffee?

“Tea! I’ve got enough energy of my own.”
