Area Sales Manager – Wales & Southern England
Martyn joined Key Plant Welderentals in 2024 following our acquisition of the European operations of Red-D-Arc. As a long-standing member of the Red-D-Arc team, Martyn brought with him a wealth of experience, industry knowledge, and trusted client relationships—making him a vital part of our growing Welderentals division.
“I support clients across Southern England and Wales with tailored welding and automation solutions—scoping projects, specifying equipment, managing installs, and ensuring technical success. I work closely with fabricators, EPCs, and distributors to deliver high-performance systems that boost productivity, quality, and efficiency.”
I’ve worked in the engineering and welding industry since leaving school way back in 1990-starting on the tools and working my way up through service, engineering, and now technical sales. It’s been a great journey so far ( with only a few welding burns and head knocks along the way ! ).
Wales rugby and Cardiff City fan-though supporting them this year has tested my loyalty! In summer, I’m often watching Glamorgan or Port Talbot cricket club. I love the outdoors, from coastal walks to mountain hikes-grateful to call the stunning landscapes of Wales my home ( rain included, of course!.)

5 Questions
with Martyn
1. Favourite product or equipment to work on? (And why?)
The RCR2 root and cap welder – It’s a standout bit of kit, technically advanced, incredibly precise, and a game-changer for pipe welding projects. It’s reliable, repeatable, and delivers real results, plus showing it off always sparks a good conversation.
2. One tool or machine you couldn’t live without?
The one tool I absolutely couldn’t live without. The kettle. Without it, productivity drops, morale crumbles, and no one dares approach me before 9am. It’s the unsung hero of every site visit and demo because behind every great weld is a properly brewed cup of tea.
3. What do you enjoy most about working in the industry?
I enjoy working in the welding and weld automation industry because it blends hands-on engineering with smart technology. Every day brings new challenges, problem-solving, and real progress you can see. It’s rewarding to support fabricators with solutions that boost quality and efficiency-and there’s never a dull moment in this industry.
4. A project you’re most proud of?
The Sea Rose project at Harland and Wolff in Belfast, because it represented high-level collaboration, technical precision, and the chance to contribute to a globally recognized offshore asset. Being involved meant delivering reliable welding and weld automation solutions in a demanding environment-showcasing my ability to support large-scale projects with professionalism, adaptability, and pride.
5. Go-to song in the workshop, office, or car?
My go-to song in the workshop or car ? ” I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys -because nothing says welding and engineering professional like belting out 90s boyband ballads in a hi-vis. Sparks fly, machines hum, and I’m harmonizing like it’s a stadium tour…just with fewer back up dancers and more importantly it’s a source of constant embarrassment to my children, which makes it even better.
6. Bonus question: Tea or coffee?
I prefer tea over coffee because it’s a calming classic and doesn’t come with the drama of a triple-shot caramel latte. It’s the perfect brew for thinking through a job, chatting with clients, or just pretending I’ve got everything under control-plus. let’s be honest, nothing beats a proper cuppa!
